At Matter Studio, creativity thrives when minds and visions converge. With this, we are proud to introduce Monthly Matters—our platform for industry collaboration. Each month, we invite a local designer or supplier to integrate their vision with ours, celebrating a shared dedication to design, craftsmanship, and innovation. This September, we are thrilled to kick off the series by partnering with the incredible duo behind Bofred.
Founded in Cape Town in 2014 by Christa Botha and Carla Erasmus, Bofred is a female-led furniture and lighting studio known for its dynamic approach to design. Both Christa and Carla bring a fine arts background and a love of travel to their work, infusing each collection with a blend of artistry, storytelling, and craftsmanship. Their designs draw from a deep well of inspiration, blending global aesthetics with local expertise. Through their work, Bofred contributes to the growth of Cape Town’s community of skilled artisans and manufacturers, producing pieces that are as functional as they are beautiful.
The Miro Buffet Lamp is featured in Matter Studio’s Project Vrede. This lamp embodies the beauty of raw clay, transformed into an elegant, modern form that complements any space. In another of our projects, Garden Court, Bofred’s ARCH Table Lamp from the Clay Collection stands tall alongside the Bahla Chair from their Bask Collection. Each piece from the Bask Collection is a reflection of Bofred’s personal connection to two homes: Durban, South Africa, and Muscat, Oman.
For Christa and Carla, every season of life influences their creative journey. As they continue to grow as artisans and friends, they bring to each project a deeper understanding of how design can honour both the past and the present. At Matter Studio, we couldn’t think of a more fitting partner to launch our Monthly Matters series.
